Learning how to projection map was a really cool experience as I've seen projection mapping at the Van Gogh exhibit before although I never thought I'd be skilled enough to do it. I was pleasantly surprised by how the software we used made it so simple. Projection mapping and being part of a guerilla-style art show was intimidating and slightly stressful, to say the least, working to perfectly align projections and be in an art show under pressure was an extremely valuable experience that I will never forget. During the art show, I projected onto a doorway of a mural at Spectra. The mesmerizing kaleidescope-like video I was projecting made the doorway appear to be an entrance to an alternate world that seemed like an audience pleaser. Something I do appreciate about projection mapping is that while the technical side is more simplistic than many may think, as long as it is executed correctly, to the viewer, it looks like an incredible masterpiece. I learned that the choice of video is extremely important as two different videos projected onto the same surface may result in drastically different reactions or visual effects. After each seemingly impossible project we do, I am filled with a new sense of confidence in my digital art abilities which is why I am so thankful for how you pushed and worked with us throughout the semester! The attached images and videos are all from our art show although one image is from the interactive Van Gogh exhibit which is all projection mapping!
